
DIETETIC INTERNSHIP INFORMATION DIETETIC INTERNSHIP APPLICATION DIETETIC INTERNSHIP RECOMMENDATION FORM About OSU The Oklahoma State University Dietetic Internship Program was originally established in 1937. This program is currently granted continuing accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL, 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 ext 5400 until 2011. The DI Program has a generalist emphasis. In January 2009, CADE approved the OSU Dietetic Internship to become a combined MS/DI program beginning with the class of 2009. Our program will be submitting a major change request to CADE to require completion of the Master's Degree beginning with the class of 2009-2010. The information on this website reflects our requested program changes and revised mission and goals. DI Mission The OSU Dietetic Internship advances health and quality of life of individuals and communities by preparing dietetic professionals through education, discovery, and application of scientific knowledge. DI Program Goals - The program will produce professionally competent Master's level registered dietitians who obtain employment in dietetics-related positions

Schedule
- The entire program is expected to take 2 ½ to 3 years to complete both the Master of Science degree and the internship rotations. The duration of the program is dependent upon the selected research topic area and the objective of the dietetic intern.
- Interns may complete rotations after the coursework for their master's degree has been completed.
General Information - Selection Criteria:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with verified completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Minimum recommended GRE scores of 900 total for verbal and quantitative and 4.0 for analytical writing skill
- Admission to the OSU Graduate College and NSCI graduate program
- Varied work experiences in clinical settings and foodservice are preferred.
- Number of Dietetic Interns – The program is accredited to accept up to 24 interns each year.
- Length of Program –The program begins in August with the fall semester. Master's degree requirements and the internship rotations may be completed within 2 ½ to 3 years. The internship rotations last a minimum of 30 weeks.
- RD Eligibility - After successful completion of the Dietetic Internship program, the intern will be eligible to take the registration examination.
- Rotation Responsibilities - A minimum of 1200 hours of logged supervised practice is required to complete the program. The work week while on rotations is a minimum of 40 hours. There will be some weekend, early morning and/or evening work for most interns.
- Holidays - The Dietetic Internship program follows the University calendar, except during internship rotations. Rotation schedules are set by rotation preceptors during the spring and summer; interns may be required to work on holidays.
- Living Accommodations - Students are responsible for their own housing arrangements. Living expenses generally range from $700 - $900 per month.
- Transportation - Because the rotations are located throughout the state, each dietetic intern will need access to dependable transportation, and must carry sufficient automobile insurance coverage for liability.
- Meals - Most of the rotation sites provide at least one free meal per day during rotations. Others may provide 2-3 meals or meals at reduced cost.
- Uniforms - Laboratory coats or scrubs and appropriate footwear are required to conform to individual institutional dress code, food safety and/or OSHA requirements.
- Health Insurance - Each dietetic intern must have health insurance. A student may elect to participate in the OSU Student Government sponsored group insurance policy (see other fees and expenses on p. 4 of the DI information document that may be downloaded from this page) or be insured with his/her parents or spouse.
- Liability Insurance – The program pays for Liability Insurance for interns through Marsh Affinity Group (Seabury & Smith)
- Scholarships - Applicants are eligible to apply for scholarships from the CHES Graduate program and the OSU graduate College. Scholarships are also available through state dietetic associations and the American Dietetic Association. Deadlines for most scholarships are in January or February preceding the school year.
