As the premier Early Childhood Professional Education program in the state, the Human Development and Family Science Department is pleased to announce the establishment of The Center for Early Childhood Teaching and Learning.

The Center for Early Childhood Teaching and Learning will facilitate opportunities

  • for innovative instruction of future teachers,
  • for research about the development and education of children from birth through age eight,
  • and for professional development of early childhood educators.

The Center for Early Childhood Teaching and Learning includes four main components

  • The Model Teaching Classroom for the instruction of undergraduate early childhood education majors. This room has space for teaching adult learners embedded within the physical environment of an early childhood classroom. The Model Teaching Classroom will also be used for continuing education for classroom teachers, administrators, and college instructors.
  • The Early Childhood Resource Center for use by students and graduates of our program as well as professional in classrooms around the state. It will include a variety of developmentally appropriate materials and resources for infancy through third grade. Opportunities for early childhood professional development will be coordinated through faculty and staff affiliated with the Early Childhood Resource Center.
  • The Child Development Laboratory with model early childhood classrooms in an NAEYC accredited program. Innovative, engaging developmentally appropriate practice is modeled in each classroom. Early Childhood faculty, staff, and students will conduct action research related to curriculum development, classroom practice, and outcomes for children.
  • The SOURCE serves as an outreach arm of the Center for Early Childhood Teaching and Learning. Housed at OSU-Tulsa, the SOURCE develops educational opportunities to support the growth and development of early childhood professionals through the development and delivery of training modules that enhance knowledge and skills to support quality learning environments. The SOURCE is engaged in research to determine effective professional development, dissemination and interpretation of current policies, and practices. The SOURCE supports advocacy and intervention efforts o behalf of children at the local, state, and international levels.
