Welcome to the Department of Human Development and Family Science

Human Development and Family Science students understand the developmental stages of humans from birth to aging adults. HDFS students are caring, hard working and service oriented. The Center for Early Childhood Teaching and Learning provide hands-on classroom experiences and research opportunities for Early Childhood Education graduates who are highly sought after by principals. Child and Family Services graduates are well prepared to provide support and service to the communities where they are employed.


 
Early Childhood Innovator, State Educator Dr. Ramona Paul Named 2009 Oklahoman of the Year
The Human Development and Family Science Department in the College of Human Environmental Sciences congratulates Dr. Ramona Paul on being named Oklahoman of the Year by Oklahoma Today magazine. Ramona received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in HDFS and was inducted into the CHES Hall of Fame In 2006. She is credited with developing Oklahoma’s nationally acclaimed early childhood education program. Read more about Ramona’s award here.
 
Henderson receives $ 1.15 million National Science Foundation grant
Tammy Henderson, associate professor in Oklahoma State University’s College of Human Environmental Sciences has received a National Science Foundation grant for more than $1.15 million to study Alaska Native grandparents.

The research project is titled “From Their Perspective: Alaskan Grandparents’ Roles, Strengths and Needs” and will investigate Alaska Native grandparents residing in rural, semi-urban and urban areas of Alaska.

The two-year award is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
