Oklahoma State University’s Design, Housing and Merchandising department held the 31st Annual Career Horizons Tuesday, September 25 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus. Internationally recognized lighting expert Bernard V. Bauer will address the conference.  Bauer who is principal owner and lead designer of California based Integrated Lighting Concepts has over 40 years of design expertise including 17 years specifically dedicated to lighting design.

He has ongoing design projects for high-end retail clients in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Panama and Chile.  His American lighting design projects include Zale’s Corporation, Neiman Marcus, Sak’s Fifth Avenue and Brighton. He has held leadership positions on the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.  Bauer has developed and published educational materials for General Electric, Southern Cal Edison and lamp and fixture manufacturers.

High school students from around the state are invited to the day-long event.  Participants will explore career opportunities in apparel and interior design and merchandising. The will have an opportunity to create garments in a draping class without cutting the fabric.  Other workshops will feature garment design using non-traditional materials, textile design, visual merchandise creations and a tour of the Club Level SkyLofts in Boone Pickens Stadium. DHM faculty, students and alumni will participate in forums ranging from career options to study abroad opportunities.

A professional runway fashion show will conclude the day’s activities.  The fashions will be original designs of current DHM students and selected creations from the day’s fashion design activities.

Registration for the conference and the fashion show is $17 before Sept. 20 and $20 after that date. The fashion show is open to the public, and tickets are available at the door for $3. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Stillwater United Way. For more information call 405-744-5035.
