National Society of Minorities in Hospitality
The School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration’s chapter of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality was recognized as the Outstanding New Chapter of the Year at the organization’s national conference and career fair. The chapter, which was organized in August of 2006, has 25 active members and also submitted the award winning graphic design for the conference materials and T-shirts. President of the chapter, Prince Asiedu-Taku a graduate student from Ghana said the new chapter award is based on campus activities, the number of members and participation in the national conference. Fourteen HRAD students and faculty members joined over 1,000 hospitality professionals, students and educators in Bellevue, Washington for the event February 1-4. The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality is a non-profit student run professional organization. NSMH works in conjunction with its sponsors to establish a working relationship between the hospitality industry and minority students. The local OSU chapter had afood booth at Homecoming and helped with the Ranchers Club tailgate to raise funds to attend the national conference. Each of the ten students who attended the career fair during the conference received multiple job offers.
