Human Development and Family Science Assistant Professor Whitney Brosi, Nutritional Sciences Professor Janice Hermann,  HDFS Assistant Professor Jan Johnston and Linda Jaco of Oklahoma ABLE Tech have received $326,000 from the  USDA for a  year-long project titled “Empowering Older, Rural Oklahomans and their Communities: Assessment and Education on Contextual Barriers to Positive Nutrition and Health.” Research in Oklahoma’s 68 rural counties will investigate rural contextual barriers and resources related to nutrition and health. The team will develop a curriculum which will be disseminated to Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service educators across the state. A unique element of this curriculum will include information regarding assistive technology devices for shopping, cooking and eating, which can become difficult for older persons.
